Restaurant Review: Sidetrack Lounge and Loose Caboose Casino (Great Falls)

The Montana Mint recently hired renowned food critic Burraaap Brannigan to review the Montana food scene.  Based out of Great Falls, Burraaap will travel the state to check out the hippest spots, the local dives, and your classic clunkers.

This week, the Mint’s Burrrrap Branigan reviewed his lunch at the Sidetrack Lounge and Loose Caboose Casino in Great Falls.

Food: 3.0 stars out of 5

Value: 4.25 stars out of 5

Pro’s: Clean, simple menu, not overwhelming. Greasy enough for a fatboy, wanna-be foodie, but not too greasy to make a rancher proud. Plenty of seating, not too close to the bar and casino. Just barely off the beaten path a lil bit. Pretty quick service from friendly servers.

Con’s: Dated décor (in my non-humble opinion)

The Bellagio of Great Falls.

Tough to beat those happy hour hours.

Spacious joint.  Still rocks the 80s high-class décor to this day. Saw a pair of Jordache jeans. I’m certain of it.

The menu…

Bacon cheeseburger! Hmm.  Looks great upon arrival. Looks ok when the waitress leaves. Tastes great, the 1/2 lb burger par-cooked burger. Juicy, fatty, greasy.  Bacon was thick, and so was the almost burned flavor of it. The fresh bun held together throughout the entirety of the meal.

Fries, well, I never. Some were good, some not so much. It’s hard to describe a healthy fry. Twas dry. But that ranch boy, that ranch! That white, spotted sauce sure helped those dry rods slide down my throat easier. The fries may have been flash fried or  under a heat lamp since the beginning of time.

Pepperjack jalapeno burger.   If you have a death wish, or you are just one tough hombre, enjoy the hell out of this. Ouch.  The “deluxe” items of lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and onions were fresh. Made a good salad afterwards.

Big and spacious was the other end of this fine establishment. The casino side was filled with the glorious essence of a combination of a deep fryer, almost empty wallets and addiction.

Final Verdict: Service was fast and friendly, burgers were really good.  Fries were treated by me as if they had surpassed the 5-second rule, picked at them cuz the ranch needed a vehicle to get to my gullet.
