AA Football Tidbits – Week 3

Welcome to Week 3! There was at least one major upset last week, read on to see who Minty Coach thinks will be victorious this week:

Week 3 Match-ups…

Helena High @ Butte

Hellgate @ Big Sky

CMR @ Belgrade

Skyview @ West

Glacier @ Capital

Sentinel @ Flathead

Senior @ Bozeman

Minty’s Predicted Winners…

Butte

Hellgate

Belgrade

West

Capital

Sentinel

Bozeman

Last Week: 6-2, Overall: 11-4

What To Watch For…

  • Belgrade hasn’t been embarrassed in either of its first two AA match-ups. CMR isn’t “the program” it used to be. Watch the Panthers earn their first AA victory at home this Friday.
  • Hellgate opened their season by blanking Skyview. The Knights hadn’t shut a team out since 2010. The Big Sky Eagles went on the road and shocked Bozeman last week. I’m calling this the game of the week in the AA.
  • Helena High (2-0) travels to Naranche to take on the Butte High Bulldogs, also 2-0. The Bengals are stingy on defense and the Bulldogs are dynamic on offense. This should also be a dandy.

Minty Tidbits…

  • Butte High gun-slinger Tommy Mellott has put up some gaudy numbers thus far this year. The Bulldog senior already has 675 yards through the air to go along with 176 on the ground. Mellott has either scored or been a part of 11 trips to the endzone already this season.
  • Hellgate’s Rollie Worster had a heavy hand in the Knights’ shutout of Billings Skyview last Friday. The senior-QB accounted for all but ten of Hellgate’s 337 yards of offense and had a hand in every touchdown, throwing for two and rushing for two more.
  • By my count, there is currently only one Montana-native with AA football experience currently playing in the NFL. Former Bozeman Hawk, Will Dissly, a tight end with the Seattle Seahawks, has one catch for twelve yards on the season.
