AA Football Tidbits – Week 5

We’re halfway through the 2019-2020 regular season and there are still four teams with unblemished records in the AA. Two of those teams square off in Missoula on Thursday night. Read on below to find out who Minty Coach thinks will remain perfect.

Week 5 Match-ups…

Butte @ Sentinel (Thursday)
Belgrade @ Senior
GFH @ Bozeman
Capital @ Flathead
Glacier @ Big Sky
Hellgate @ Helena High
Skyview @ CMR

Minty’s Predicted Winners…

Butte
Senior
Bozeman
Capital
Glacier
Hellgate
CMR

Last Week: 5-2, Overall: 22-7

What To Watch For…

  • Butte High and Sentinel are clearly playing the game of the week in the Garden City Thursday night. Both teams can score at will and both are chock full of athletes. I’d give a slight edge to Sentinel as it’s their home game, but my gut still tells me the Bulldogs leave town with an unblemished record.
  • The Flathead High Braves seem to be searching for an identity on offense. In four games they’ve run everything from a spread offense to an i-formation and even a double wing look. They have big, athletic guys up front and a decent stable of athletes at the skill positions. Let’s see if they can break through at home against Capital this week.
  • The weather should have an impact on many of this week’s games. The forecast calls for record snow in the mountains (for this time of year) and colder than normal temps across much of the central part of the state. These are the games you remember as a player!

Minty Tidbits…

  • According to MaxPreps, Butte High gun-slinger, Tommy Mellott leads the state in passing with 1,174 yards, Devin Beale of Whitefish is the leader in rushing yards with 600, Connor Ryan of Billings West has the lead in receiving yards at 562 and Dawson Young of Libby is the leader in points scored with 62.
  • The Hellgate Knights got ANOTHER win last week against the Flathead Braves. The last time the Knights started a season 3-0 was back in 1987! Back then the Simpsons had just debuted, Three Men and a Baby was the top movie, The Bangles released Walk Like an Egyptian and Nintendo had just released Mike Tyson’s Punch-out.
  • Will Dissly Watch: For those of you in need of a fantasy TE, go out and snag Mr. Dissly. He snared 6 of 7 targets and even found the endzone again last week against the Saints!
