AA Football Tidbits – Week 4

Week 4 is upon us, the leaves are beginning to turn and the air has a distinct crispness about it. Two things are for certain this week: one team will earn its first victory and one team will be tagged with its first loss. Read on below to find out who that might be…

Week 4 Match-ups…

Bozeman @ Skyview (Thursday)

Helena High @ Big Sky (Thursday)

CMR @ West

Butte @ Glacier

Senior @ GFH

Flathead @ Hellgate

Sentinel @ Capital

Minty’s Predicted Winners…

Bozeman

Helena High

West

Glacier

Senior

Hellgate

Capital

Last Week: 6-1, Overall: 17-5

What To Watch For…

  • Both Billings Senior and GFH had higher hopes for their seasons, however, at the moment both are winless. The Broncs opened with a brutal schedule, facing Capital, Sentinel and Bozeman all on the road. Senior looks to be the favorite to jump into the win column in the Electric City this Friday.
  • Game of the Week: Sentinel at Capital. Both teams enter Friday’s contest with an unblemished 3-0 record. The Spartans have been stingy on defense and pretty damn effective on offense, while the Bruins have scored enough in each of their three games to come out on top. This could be a high scoring affair.
  • The Butte High Bulldogs are another team that have lit up the scoreboard early in the season. Their opponent, the Glacier Wolfpack, has as well. This could be a track meet. I see an over/under of 88 in this one. Give me the Wolfpack and the over.

Minty Tidbits…

  • According to MaxPreps, Fairfield (co-oping with Augusta this season) is the #1 ranked team in the state of Montana thus far this season. Hamilton, Billings Central, Custer County (Miles City) and Missoula Loyola round out the top five, with Billings West coming in at #6. No other AA team is ranked in the Top 10.
  • The Hellgate Knights got another win last week against crosstown rival, Missoula Big Sky. The last time the Knights started a season 2-0 was 1995. Back then, Braveheart was the #1 movie, Seal had the song of the year (Kiss From a Rose), Alanis Morissette had the best album (Jagged Little Pill) and OJ Simpson claimed he was “not guilty”.
  • We mentioned Bozeman-native Will Dissly last week. Well, Dissly had himself a day on Sunday against the Steelers. The Seahawk tight end caught five balls, on five targets, for 50 yards and two scores. Dissly and the Seahawks take on New Orleans this week.
