Montana AA Playoff Power Rankings and Regular Season Thoughts
With the regular season now complete and round one of the playoffs set to kickoff tonight, I thought I’d take a look back at my Week 1 power rankings to see where I missed and where I was spot on. With the exception of teams like Billings Senior, Billings West, Missoula Sentinel and Missoula Big Sky, I had each team ranked within two spots of their final ranking as of Week 1.
Where I missed…
- Billings Senior – The Broncs had a nice season, but they clearly missed studs like Gabe Sulser, Nolan Askelson and Blake Allred. They have some nice players and some impressive team speed, but absolutely missed their exciting senior trio this year.
- Missoula Sentinel – The Spartans were loaded with talent. They had a dual-threat QB, a shifty RB and a defense loaded with athletes. This team realistically could have been undefeated. They lost five games by a combined 19 points and none of those losses were by more than a touchdown. Unfortunately, even with their win over Capital in Week 10, the Spartans were left out of the playoffs by way of their OT loss to GFH in Week 3.
- Missoula Big Sky – The Eagles looked depleted after the graduation of all-everything stud Levi Janacaro. I honestly expected this team go winless. They didn’t exactly run through the league, but they found ANOTHER Janacaro and now the future looks pretty bright for the Eagles.
- Billings West – The Golden Bears are perhaps my biggest miss of the season. Anchored by a massive o-line and a plethora of skill players, West dominated the league. They lost to league favorite, Bozeman by four on the road and seem destined for another meeting in three weeks time.
