My Reasons for Ranking the AA | Mint AA Football Power Rankings

You all know what happened last week by now; who won, who lost and who balled out. So, let’s try a new format. Listed below are my Week 9 power rankings along with five reasons why I feel the way I do.

Rankings

#1 Bozeman (8-0)

#2 Billings West (7-1)

#3 Helena High (6-2)

#4 Flathead (6-2)

#5 Billings Senior (6-2)

#6 Glacier (3-5)

#7 Missoula Sentinel (4-4)

#8 Great Falls High (4-4)

#9 Helena Capital (3-5)

#10 Butte (3-5)

#11 Missoula Big Sky (2-6)

#12 Missoula Hellgate (2-6)

#13 CMR (2-6)

#14 Billings Skyview (0-8)

My Reasons

  1. Watch out for the Glacier Wolfpack! They lost some close games early on, but are on a roll now. They take on Big Sky and Hellgate to end the year and will be favored in both games. Again, that seemingly poor record is severely misleading.
  2. The Bison are scuffling and may miss out on the postseason after a great start. They’ve faced, and lost, to West and Helena High and now take on unbeaten Bozeman in the Electric City. I expect them to split their next two, with the win coming against CMR next week.
  3. Butte’s defense showed up last week. They’ve given up 265 points on the year, good for second to last in the league behind Hellgate at 299, however, they held the Bison to just 14 last week at Naranche. They finish with Skyview and Big Sky, at home and on the road, respectively. With no road wins this year I see them splitting their last two and missing out on the postseason.
  4. The Sentinel Spartans finish with the two Helena schools, once at home and once on the road. Again, I see a split and a .500 record when it’s all said and done. This was a team expected to finish at the top of the league. Will a 5-5 record be good enough for a postseason berth?
  5. Sure, eight teams make the postseason, but don’t be confused, this is three-team race. Bozeman has been virtually untouchable thus far and West and Flathead haven’t been far behind. Look for one of these squads to hoist a trophy.
