AA Football Tidbits – Week 2

Week 1 is in the books! All 15 AA teams are in action this week and, as usual, there are some gems on the schedule!

Week 2 Match-ups…

Skyview @ Hellgate

Big Sky @ Bozeman

CMR @ Butte

Helena @ Belgrade

GFH @ Capital

Flathead @ West

Mt. Spokane @ Glacier

Senior @ Sentinel

Minty’s Predicted Winners…

  • Hellgate
  • Bozeman
  • Butte
  • Helena
  • Capital
  • West
  • Mount Spokane
  • Senior

Last Week: 5-2, Overall: 5-2

What To Watch For…

  • Belgrade opens up the home portion of the schedule with Helena High. The Bengals will be the first AA opponent of the season to visit Belgrade.
  • The Hellgate Knights officially open their season at home against Billings Skyview after a Week 1 bye. The Knights beat the Falcons 41-27 in Billings last year and look to be the favorites in this one as well.
  • Glacier takes on Mount Spokane, out of Mead, Wash., in Kalispell this Friday. Glacier was scheduled to have a bye with Bozeman Westslope on the schedule, but choose to play the Wildcats instead. Mount Spokane went 8-3 last season and lost in the second round of the 3A state playoffs.
  • The Senior High Broncs make the long trek to Missoula to take on the Sentinel Spartans. Senior battled Helena Capital to the final whistle in a close loss last week, while Sentinel topped Great Falls High on the road. Look for a track meet in this one, as both teams possess plenty of speed.

Minty Tidbits…

  • Bozeman High defensive end, Kenneth Eiden IV, opened up the 2019 season with 4 sacks against Flathead High last week. Eiden, a junior, led the state in sacks last year with 21.
  • Capital High’s Parker Johnston had himself a game last week in Billings. The senior receiver/defensive back tallied 5 receptions for 171 yards and two scores AND snagged two interceptions (35 and 40 yards), both of which went for scores!
  • The Flathead Braves were shut out last Friday by a loaded Bozeman Hawk squad. The Braves haven’t been blanked since 2015, when they were also shut out by a Bozeman Hawk squad; one that went on to win a state title.
