Big Sky Conference Power Rankings: Week 2

With only 2 weekends of football in the books, there are obviously more question marks than sure things in the Big Sky Conference.  We take a look at our Big Sky Conference Power Rankings:

Big Sky Conference Power Rankings: Week 2

1. Eastern Washington (STATS FCS Poll: 6, Sagarin Rank: 97)

Eastern Washington took care of their cupcake opponent Central Washington in Week 1 and dominated Northern Arizona for most of their Week 2 game. They’re the top of the conference right now and head to Washington State to try and pull off the upset like they did in 2016.

2. UC Davis (STATS FCS Poll: 23, Sagarin Rank: 140)

UC Davis knocked off FBS San Jose State in Week 1 and took down San Diego at home by a big margin. San Diego wasn’t a push over as this team made it to the 2nd round of the FCS playoffs last year. Davis is looking good.

3. Northern Arizona (STATS FCS Poll: 20, Sagarin Rank: 117)

NAU beat FBS University of Texas-El Paso BIG TIME in Week 1 but stumbled against EWU last week. Case Cookus injury is a big question mark for the ‘Jacks but their backup QB has some skill.

4. Weber State (STATS FCS Poll: 11, Sagarin Rank: 124)

Weber was up early Week 1 at FBS Utah before getting beat by 31 and had to force a late turnover to beat Cal Poly in Week 2. Big game against #22 South Dakota this weekend.

5. Montana (STATS FCS Poll: 15, Sagarin Rank: 122)

The Griz scored a big opening season win against, at the time, #14 Northern Iowa and beat up on lowly Drake. The Griz are 3-7 their last 2 years on the road so this is a big game this weekend at Western Illinois in Bobby Hauck’s first game away from Washington-Grizzly Stadium since his return.

6. Sacramento State (STATS FCS Poll: NR, Sagarin Rank: 149)

Sacramento State easily beat Saint Francis (DII from Illinois) in Week 1 and was very competitive against FBS San Diego State in Week 2 as the Aztecs had to score 14 in the 4th quarter to put the Hornets away. Northern Colorado hosts the Hornets this weekend.

7. Montana State (STATS FCS Poll: NR, Sagarin Rank: 154)

MSU was led by Troy Andersen in a nice home win against Western Illinois to start the season. A trip to South Dakota State in Week 2 left a lot of question marks heading into this weekend’s game against Wagner.

8. Idaho (STATS FCS Poll: NR, Sagarin Rank: 169)

In their first game back in the FCS, Idaho got beat 79-13 by FBS Fresno State. They returned home to beat DII Western New Mexico. A Week 3 bye is needed before heading to UC Davis in Week 4.

9. Idaho State (STATS FCS Poll: NR, Sagarin Rank: 183)

The Bengals knocked off DII Western State in Week 1 and were off in Week 2. We don’t know much about them and they travel to FBS California this weekend.

10. Cal Poly (STATS FCS Poll: NR, Sagarin Rank: 178)

Cal Poly got rolled by perennial power North Dakota State in Week 1 and lost a close one to Weber State in Week 2. Ivy League Brown comes to California this week to take on the Mustangs.

11. Northern Colorado (STATS FCS Poll: NR, Sagarin Rank: 177)

The Bears lost by 3 to McNeese State to start the year and were beat in Week 2 by, at the time, unranked South Dakota. Big game this weekend against Sacramento State.

12. Southern Utah (STATS FCS Poll: NR, Sagarin Rank: 167)

SUU lost a heartbreaker to first year FCS North Alabama in Week 1 and then went to FBS Oregon State and got beat by 23. It doesn’t get easier as they had to FBS Arizona this weekend.

13. Portland State (STATS FCS Poll: NR, Sagarin Rank: 211)

The Vikings must love punishment. They got drilled by FBS Nevada by 53 in Week 1 and then killed by FBS Oregon by 48 in Week 2. This week they get DII College of Idaho. Hopefully they get a win.
