Montana’s Favorite Brewery is…Philipsburg Brewing Company!

Today, the Montana Mint announced that Philipsburg Brewing Company won the 2018 Montana Mint Brewery Bracket.  Philipsburg won in the contest’s “Final Four” against Kettlehouse Brewery (Missoula), Lone Peak Brewery (Big Sky), and Tamarack Brewing (Lakeside).

This year, nearly 35,000 votes were cast on our website and on Twitter.  Starting with 60 breweries, fans voted in three rounds over three weeks to pick a winner.  The first round also allowed Montanans to write in a brewery to move on to the Sweet 16. Bonsai Brewing in Whitefish won the write-in competition.

“We all know that Montana has the best breweries, and now we can say that the best of the best is located in Philipsburg,” said representatives from the Montana Mint.  “Philipsburg Brewing is the perfect mix of good beer, great atmosphere, and hometown pride. The fans in Philipsburg really stepped up to push them across the finish line.”

We interviewed Miranda and Maddy from Philipsburg Brewing about their victory:

Montana Mint: How does it feel to be named Montana favorite brewery?

Philipsburg Brewing: With the quality of beers in MT and the other breweries involved in the competition we are honored and humbled to be recognized by this award.

MM: What set Philipsburg Brewing Company apart from the competition?

PB: With the quality of beers in Montana and the other breweries involved in the competition we are honored and humbled to be recognized by this award.  We have really distinct packaging, a clean water source, and exclusively use whole leaf hops. Undoubtedly, what set us apart in this competition is our fans. They show up daily and showed up to vote for us!

MM: For those who haven’t been to your brewery, what makes it special?

PB: We are lucky enough to be located in a lively, yet historic town that people travel from near and far to visit. So when people visit Philipsburg Brewing they are enjoying all that the surrounding community has to offer.

MM: What is the first beer someone should try when visiting?

PB: The first beer someone should try when visiting is Haybag Hefeweizen, not only is it a favorite in our taproom but all across Western Montana and is a 2016 World Beer Cup Silver Medalist.  We might be biased but you really can’t go wrong here.
