Introducing Montana Views: a new Op-Ed platform from the Montana Mint

The goal of the Montana Mint has always been to bring the best of Montana to the internet.  The launch of our new feature, Montana Views, helps us do just that a little better.

We kicked off Montana Views today with a piece from Republican candidate Greg Gianforte about why he’s running for governor.  Next week, we will run a piece from a rising star in the Democratic Party, Representative Andrew Person from Missoula.

Through Montana Views, we will post opinion pieces from folks all across Montana.  There will be an emphasis on well-written, thoughtful pieces.  Montana Views allows all Montanans an opportunity to reach a statewide audience and give their opinion on the most important issues in our state.

There is a hunger for decorum to our political discussions.  We hope Montana View can contribute to that.

Take a look at the guidelines below before drafting and submitting your piece:

  • All submissions must be your own work.
  • We prefer pieces that run in the 600-800 word range, but will consider pieces of any length.
  • We are looking for pieces that make arguments for specific views, on policies and politics that affect the lives of Montanans. Here is a tiered list of some example.
    • Bad: “Why Donald Trump would make a good President.”
    • Meh: “Why Donald Trump would be a good President for Montana.”
    • Good: “How Donald Trump’s tax plan will positively impact Montana’s small businesses”
    • Best: “How Donald Trump’s tax plan will positively impact Montana’s small businesses” by Montana Small Business Owner
  • You are responsible for editing your writing. As we’ve demonstrated for 3+ years, the Montana Mint is not great at finding typos.
  • Lastly, we sadly cannot post every piece submitted or respond to all emails.

Submissions and inquiries should be emailed to: hello@montana-mint.com. Please include your name, email, phone number, and address in the body of your email, and write “Montana Views” in the subject line.
