Ultimate Cat/Griz Gambling Preview II

The only thing that feels better than having your team win the big rivalry game is winning money off one of your rivals. Don’t be a sucker (talking to you Bobcat fans) by betting straight up on either a win or loss for your team, let Vegas and yours truly give you the keys to a betting victory this weekend.

Montana -7 at Montana State

So you’ve bet your best frenemy that your beloved Bobcats will beat the Griz straight up, Vegas says you’re a sucker. In fact, you are a sucker to the tune of a whole touchdown. Currently, the Bobcats are two to one underdogs. Meaning, if you were to bet on a Bobcat victory, you would get $2 for every dollar you bet. On the other side, you would have to bet $2 on the Griz for every dollar in profit.

If you can’t find anyone who is willing to give you two to one on your money, then you should use a point spread.  Odds makers have the Griz as 7 point favorites in Bozeman. That means if you are betting on the Cats, a win or a loss of up to 6 points would equal a betting victory. If you are a Griz fan, your team must win by 8 points or more. A seven point decision would lead to a tie with no money exchanging hands. I suggest using a tie breaker, last team to score, over/under (more on that later), etc… in the event of a possible tie, no one likes a tie.

My Picks

Each week I’ve made my Cat & Griz picks against the spread with a very respectable overall record of 13-7, meaning I’d be up $600 if I were betting $100 on each game. I was slightly surprised that the Griz were a full touchdown favorite, but am still somewhat confident that they will come out with the victory and the cover.

Cat Griz has rarely been a shootout, and with the cold weather and snow coming, I don’t think this year will be any different. Defense and winning the turnover battle will be the key in tomorrow’s game. The Grizzlies have a huge advantage in both. Also, being battle tested and coming into the game with confidence is huge. The Griz played a tougher overall schedule and are coming off a resounding 57-16 win over EWU. The Cats have showed offensive dominance much of the season, but their defense has been an absolute disaster.  The Griz will pressure the Bobcats much like Southern Utah did when the Cats were held to 23 points.  The Bobcats must hold onto the ball and force turnovers or this game could get out of hand very quickly. I think the Griz will win this game by double digits and am almost certain that the under will hit. If you have any friends in Vegas this weekend, I strongly urge you to bet Under on the total of 70 points. Gamble responsibly Cats & Griz and stay warm.
