A Cat Griz Film Competition – Vote Today

A new Missoula company called the Audience Awards is expanding the Cat/Griz rivalry (or griz/cat, for those of you about to unleash in the comments) beyond the field and bringing it to the world of film.  29 film makers from UM and MSU submitted films, and whichever movie claims the most votes wins $1,500.  Right now the Griz are in front, with the film “Mischief” and are leading overall with 6 of the top 8 films.

Check out the current top 8 films below, and head over to The Audience Awards to vote for your favorite.  Voting ends June 30.

#1 Mischief (Griz)

Step into a world where the unimaginable can happen. This is the world of mischief where even a simple piece of paper can be an enemy!

#2 Transformation (Cats)

The stresses of school, work, and everything else that comes with life can sometimes be overwhelming. Everyone has their own way of relieving stress, their release, their point of transformation. For Erin Williams, a competitive Jump Roper with several national titles and a world ranking under her belt, that point of finding her peace is when she steps into a gym, studio, or onto a street and is transformed by that piece of cable with a handle on each end.

#3 Ian Hamilton: The Other Side (Griz)

A look into the mind of Professional Slopestyle Skier Ian Hamilton and his Montana roots. Competition is something that he loves and skiing at the highest level of performance is a goal that Ian is constantly chasing. Sometimes it is stressful and tiring and there is nothing more rejuvenating and refreshing for him then getting back to Montana and skiing in the backcountry and wilderness that surrounds us here.

#4 Closed Door Open (Griz)

A young man contemplates his life as a series of auditions and rehearsals, struggling to keep up with the reality that he may or may not be living in.

#5 I N T E R V A L S (Griz)

A piano tuner holds the key to the memories of his client, a gifted pianist living with dementia.

#6 Bastard (Griz)

In Bastard, we follow 8-year old Dillard, nicknamed “Pickle”, as he attempts to get to school. We learn snippets about Pickle’s life, full of adult problems, as we watch him interact with his father on their morning commute.

#7 Reel View (Griz)

Reel View is one single movement through a man’s life. This world is deep in his subconscious. Our protagonist is able to reflect upon his life by the help of an iconic childhood toy, a viewmaster. As he watches the ‘reel’ of his life, certain people are more highlighted than some, while others seep into, and out of the shadows. Specific moments of his life are fast paced while other parts seem to move by much slower. Reel View is a depiction of one’s reflection upon their life.

#8 American Honey (Cats)

American Honey tells the story of a young woman with a future full of potential if she can only overcome the ghosts of her past. Sammy, the young woman, returns home after a long absence. On her way home, she remembers her childhood and her abusive past. She remembers he alcoholic teenage mother and the multitude of reasons why she had to leave. But can Sammy move on with her life? Or will she fall into the rut her mother fell into?

About the Audience Awards

Every film deserves an audience. Our goal is to spur your short films and filmmaking career into action. The film festival world is great, but once a short film has traveled the circuit, it’s rare that an audience has an opportunity to see your work. It’s time to bring a larger audience to short films and for us to continually celebrate and support filmmakers. The Audience Awards hosts regularly occurring short film competitions where the film with the most votes wins. If you are a filmmaker and have a short film, you can submit your film to compete at The Audience Awards to gain exposure and audience and win cash. Not only do we want to promote your short films, we want to promote you. We accomplish this through our filmmaker profile pages where the audience can read about you, screen some of your work, participate in an online Q & A with you and buy you a cup of coffee or give you money for your next project. Unlike Kickstarter, we are not project specific. We are building a filmmaking community made of filmmakers and the audience who love them and want to support your work.
